What got you into riding?
As a kid a bike means freedom. It then meant that I could go fast. I still love both aspects.
My first real MTB was a 1994 Diamondback Apex. It was stolen after 2 weeks. I’m still grieving.
How would you describe your riding?
I race because I love to ride as fast as I can and I climb hills because I gain some kind of perverse pleasure from the challenge and the pain.
What is your routine before competition?
When I race I need to know that everything will be completely familiar and reliable. So I always have the same breakfast, wear the same socks, check every bolt on my bike and am ready early enough to relax, have a casual warm up and ensure that I am well hydrated. I also always need to take a dump just after I put my bibs and jersey on.
What do you do if you aren’t riding?
I am involved in church stuff. I am transforming my house from a Norwegian sauna into something that is less so. Or I am working on my Khanacross car.
Who do you like to ride with/against?
Big Dog is my arch nemesis. He challenges me (and usually wins, the bastard). But he can also bring out the best in me. Juzzy Bagge is my 24hr buddy and him and Trent make riding fun.
Where is your favourite place to ride?
If it’s a short ride I love the local trails around Blaxland. If I’m going for a big one then it’s the roads around Lithgow or the dirt around Jenolan caves.
Either new years day 2006 (200ks 45degrees and beautifully quiet roads) or Hells gate (So many vertical metres and so few granny rings).
Describe yourself using five words.
Magnificent, Gorgeous, Intelligent, Superb and Humble
List five things you would like to accomplish.
1. Represent God in all I do.
2. Improved spelling and grammar for all the world.
3. To be able to hear a Robbie Williams song without it being stuck in my head for the rest of the day.
4. Teach my work mates how to truly enjoy food and still provide their bodies with proper nourishment.
5. To beat my brother in a car race.
